Mausoleo 0.8 is a video artwork made for the 2023 Creative Screens contest, where it won first prize and was subsequently displayed on the 20+20 meter wide media facade of the Etopia Center for Arts and Technology during the month of March 2024.

Description

Mausoleo 0.8 is my entry to the 2023 (and in retrospect, final) edition of the Creative Screens contest, organized by the Fundación Zaragoza Conocimiento and Ayuntamiento de Zaragoza for the Etopia Center for Arts and Technology in Zaragoza, Spain.

The contest involved creating a video for the the main building's "media facade", which is composed of two 20 meter wide screens arranged forming the corner of a cube. Videos needed to be created in a resolution of 536x126, with the left screen being 264 pixels wide and the right screen being 272 pixels wide, so content had to be custom made to fit the specific format.

Mausoleo 0.8 was submitted along the following description (originally written in spanish):

Set in a distant future in the end of days of humanity, Mausoleo 0.8 explores the relationship between humans, technology and their environment. The scenes of the work depict the journey of an android through a desolate world, where the vestiges of the old civilization extend over the landscape like monuments to the memory of its creators. Automated factories continue their ceaseless production without purpose, and giants of steel loom silently over the horizon. But even in such an inhospitable world there exists a strange beauty, hidden under layers of steel, concrete and digital corruption.

Mausoleo 0.8 won first prize of the contest and was displayed publicly on Etopia's Media Facade during the month of March 2024. In order to preserve the work, I recorded a video of its display along with its surrounding urban context. The video includes an original soundtrack by Evil Nature, who's 2019 album Memory Dump 001 inspired the original concept of the work.
